Young Businesses people can once again share the wisdom gained by local business elders in the Young Entrepreneurs Mentoring Program, thanks to the NSW Government. The NSW Department of Trade and Investment initiative will be operated by the Liverpool Business Enterprise Centre and supported by Fairfield City Council. The Young Entrepreneurs Mentoring Program helps business owners aged 18 to 35 years to develop their business skills by attending workshops and working with a mentor. The Liverpool BEC has just completed a Young Entrepreneurs program in Macarthur and Liverpool that was deemed such a success that the NSW Government has requested they run one specifically for Fairfield and Liverpool.
Bill Parker, Business Development Manager for the Liverpool Business Enterprise Centre says: ”This is a fantastic initiative which will help produce the business leaders of tomorrow”.
Young Entrepreneurs will be supported by a series of workshops in business planning, marketing, financial fundamentals, strategic selling and importantly, managing customer relationships. In the program, participants will identify the areas where they need help to grow their business. Mentors from the local business community will be tailor matched to help the young entrepreneurs as they develop their business venture.
Bill Parker says ‘the importance of this program was really brought home to me at a recent Chamber of Commerce lunch. Amongst the group of business owners in attendance, I estimated that we had at least 1200 years combined business experience in the room. Across our region we have tens of thousands of years of business experience. Compare this to a young person, learning as they go in the early days of their business. This type of support for young business people is extremely powerful. Our experience shows that businesses that use mentors are normally more successful, and we expect participants on both sides of the relationship to benefit from getting involved in the Young Entrepreneurs program”.
The Fairfield Liverpool Young Entrepreneurs Program will be launched early next month to celebrate Small Business September. Places are limited so interested young business people should apply now. Parker states: “we have had an overwhelming response from local business owners who want to get involved to help young people develop successful businesses. With so many young people in our area, we expect this program to be even more popular than the first one”
